Meari: Instant Waves captures a live performance by violist Ernesto Rodrigues, tenor saxophonist Jung-Jae Kim, and double bassist Alvaro Rosso at Lisbon's Casa do Comum during CreativeFest#18 on November 24, 2024. Rodrigues, a central figure in Portugal's experimental music scene and founder of Creative Sources Recordings, is known for his textural improvisations and use of unconventional instruments like the crackle box.
Kim, a South Korean saxophonist based in Berlin, brings a transdisciplinary approach to free improvisation, exploring new sonic possibilities.
Rosso, originally from Uruguay and now residing in Portugal, has a background spanning classical, jazz, and experimental music, with a focus on extended techniques and free improvisation.
The trio's performance unfolds as a single 28-minute piece, traversing from ambient, lowercase improvisation to more active, scrabbly interactions. Their interplay emphasizes texture and timbre, creating a dynamic soundscape that reflects the intimate setting of Casa do Comum and the exploratory spirit of CreativeFest #18.
